"Staying Cool In The Summer"
(Don't Get Black Barred In Your Favorite Glossy!)
So, it's finally summer time! Temperatures are soaring sky high and everyone's peeling off more and more clothes. But hold on there sexy lady, are you really ready for the summer? No matter what your body type or your skin tone, there's no excuse for leaving the house completely unprepared! Thankfully, BAS is here to give you a few pointers to stay sexy all summer long.
For starters, before you can worry about your outfit, care about that skin you'll be exposing all summer. Two words: moisturize and glow, they're THE must haves of the season. Honestly, you should be moisturizing year round, but it's especially important now when the sun's rays are closest and can zap the most moisture out of your skin. (i.e. especially if you tan)
And speaking of tanning, tan wisely. If you insist on tanning naturally (read: the sun) then here are a few pointers...Stay out of the sun from 11-2pm. That's when the sun is strongest and you take the biggest chance of burning. Give your skin a breather every once in a while. Don't bake all day! Treat it like you would a tanning booth. Don't go more than an hour on each side and make sure that you re-apply that sunscreen!
For those of us who have that natural tan, we should focus on perfecting our skin to have that sexy glow that's been very popular on the red carpet. Start with exfoliation; dead, dirty or dry skin doesn't make for a sexy glow. Either choose a scrub or a cloth with a textured side to slough off dead skin. Follow with a strong moisturizer that's not necessarily greasy but strong enough to last throughout your regular day.
Now that you have sexy smooth skin, you have a choice of bronzers (yes everyone can benefit from a bronzer). For make up pros, liquids are a great bet because of their blending ease as well as mixing if you want to pick up various highlights and undertones in your own skintone. If you're a novice, we suggest the stick bronzers because there's virtually no mess and application is a snap and practically fool proof as long as you remember to blend. (Plus there's a low risk of you over applying and looking freakish)
Darker skin tones should go for shades with golden tones in them to prevent an ashen effect. Remember to always go with your skin's own highlights and undertones rather than trying to "re-invent" your color...make that mistake and expect to find a bar across your eyes in a magazine. Fairer skin tones should pay special attention to that statement. If you "re-invent" and go too dark...you take a good chance of looking freakish because the rest of your body won't match your face.
If you simply want an illuminator, we suggest the illuminating face powders by Fresh. Not only are they sheer, but very easy to apply without that heavy make up feeling. Regardless of whether you choose sticks, powders or liquids; one thing is for sure...skin is in. And nothing is sexy about someone showing off their bad skin. It's the first thing people notice and you want to make a good impression. So prep that skin before we read about you somewhere!
