“The Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Bikini”
(The Best Swim Suit For Your Body)

What’s that I hear…the sound of the ocean waves! Yup, it’s beach time! So why are you hiding in a beach towel? If you’re feeling insecure about your swim wear, don’t fret. Big Apple Style is here to remind you of the various styles and which is best for your body type and comfort level!

Let’s start with cover ups…you have sarongs and caftans. For the person who still wants to show off their bikini with just a lil bit of covering, a sarong is an excellent option. For the modest, caftans are very popular and come with a variety of designs to keep you sassy at the beach.

Once the cover ups come off, if you’re still feeling a bit shy, try an all in one or tankini. The one piece is great for sporty chicas who want their suit to stay in place while they’re on the go. The styles are limitless…cut outs, racer back, one shoulder and reversible. Not sure where to start…click on www.jcrew.com for starters!

Tankini’s are the “must have” for someone who wants to lengthen their figure without exposing all their assets. Tankinis slim your waistline while elongating the torso. Tankini tops can be paired with boy shorts, tie sides, briefs and high legged briefs…the choice is up to you!

And if you feel like you need a lil more air on your skin, there are tons of bikini options to keep you satisfied. Let’s talk tops…those that come with built in bras are great for chicas who either want to support their bust line or enhance their bust even at the beach. Try to stay away from tops with too much padding and opt for those with more strategic stitching which can do wonders for your bust.

Some people prefer the tie back style, which allows for more maneuverability. You can actually tie it into a regular style bikini bra top it just takes some planning. Tie backs also usually offer an adjustable cup which allows for as much or as little coverage as you desire. Just make sure that you don’t try to substitute an adjustable cup for an ill fitting bikini top. Just because it’s adjustable doesn’t always mean that an XS top will magically fit your 36C’s or higher! Get the right size.

**Bandeau’s are also a great option but we suggest that you stay away from bandeau’s if you’re heavier on top. It’s NOT sexy to constantly readjust because your top keeps sliding!**

As for bottoms, if you have a boyish figure…opt for a high leg brief or a tie side bottom, it will create the illusion of hips with their high cut legs. Those who feel shy about their hips should look to boy shorts which come just above the hip line. Don’t get something that cuts right across the thigh, that will only increase attention to that area.

But remember, regardless of what you decide to stroll out on the beach with this season, there are a couple of rules to follow no matter what.

1. Always buy something that truly fits you and your lifestyle. If you’re constantly in the water…put that skimpy or complicated suit down. Nothing will embarrass you more than when you “hang ten” and your suit just doesn’t cut it.

2. Keep your body type in mind. If you know that you’re considered full figured on top…going for that super skinny mini top isn’t the wisest idea unless you have no intentions of moving once you pick a spot on the beach. If you have fuller thighs, don’t pick bottoms that cut you at your fullest point, you’re in for heartache.

3. Double tie that knot! Even if no one is trying to pull your clothes off, you’ll be amazed how a lil fabric can work itself loose. Unless of course, that’s the look you’re going for.

4. Buy what you like…not what you think someone wants to see you in. You have to wear it, not someone else so why not make yourself happy. If you want hot pink…girl go for it!
