Creating A More Fashion Forward New York

"Hemlines Are Dropping!"
(Navigating the new turn in skirt styles)

There's a growing trend blowing our way this fall...the return of a longer hemline for women! Thank goodness! Now we can walk the streets of New York without being accosted by leering men and people who just want to know how short your teeny tiny mini really is!!

But ladies beware...the longer hemline can prove to be very evil if we don't pick the right style and length that actually flatters us rather than giving us the ill fated "she's a trend follower" instead of a "trend setter" response.

A few things to consider about skirts, hemlines and unflattering lines...

1. A longer hemline may be appropriate for more upscale or professional settings...but anything falling lower than 2 inches below your knees has a tendency to make you look dowdy! If you have to stare at your reflection and wonder if you should really take it home with you...don't. (Incidently, this is a great way to curb your impulse shopping!)

2. Colorful top stitching can be a great way to make a classic skirt look trendy...unless it's a skirt with severe shaping and you have a curvaceous figure. Now that hot top stitching you were loving before will call more attention to your curves than fitting for the office or even meeting your friends for drinks in your local hot spot.

3. If you're still trying to figure out where to draw the line on appropriate length for the office, think back to high school...if your middle finger is longer than your skirt with your hands down by your sides...save it for a night out with the girls.
