"It's Coat Time Again!"
(The coat trends for fall/winter '04 and how to wearr them)
This season, fashion styles have a very broad horizon...and we like it like that! Since the in thing now is to create your own sense of style, let's look at a few of the hottest coat designs and show how they can work for you.
The Trench:This classic is always hot and can work for any lady whether you're in the corporate office or the creative and relaxed field. Characterized by fabric with a slight sheen and just enough stiffness to repel the wind, the key to this is a perfect fit. It shold fit so that when the belt is buckled (if there is a belt) there should not be an excess of fabric. Go for a longer hemline for more professional settings and let it rise for a relaxed look.
The Aviator: Naturally, this coat is for relaxed professions. It comes with or without a hood. We suggest you either get one of each or one with a detachable hood. This season, you can find this classic WWII inspired jacket in a myriad of colors so be a 'lil daring. However, if you do pick a lighter shade, automatically this jacket can no longer be an everyday affair. Nothing is worse than seeing a white jacket that "used to be white". Either have it cleaned often throughout the season or wear it occasionally.
The Pea Coat This style is another classic that we're glad to have back. The pea coat is always flattering and now is available in a variety of lengths and fabrics. Once relegated to wool, you can now find the pea coat in cordorouy and in a new cropped length. Again this style debuted in '04 with sizzling new colors. A word of caution, the cropped pea coat fits snuggly so ladies with heavier lower halves should pass on any cropped, tight fitting jacket.
The Down Puffy The puffy re-introduced itself on the market in fall/winter of '97/'98 and has continued to be a mainstay. We love it becasue it's warm and casual. This also comes in a variety of lengths but we're not too fond of the 7/8 length (mid to low calf). It should be illegal to have that much down stuffed on to one body, However, the puffy down jacket isn't a friend to everyone. Sometimes, all that extra padding can be overwhelming on small frames and add too much bulk to sturdier frames. Our suggestion, try not to pick a jacket that looks overstuffed.
These are just a few of the hottest coat and jacket styles that are available this fall. Whether you're a one jacket kind of girl or you like to have a variety available, the key to a great winter look is in the fit and viability to your lifestyle.
